RETECH4CAN

The TECHNOLOGICAL AND TERRITORIAL REd proposal for forest monitoring and reduction of environmental disasters as levers for the development of the FORestal Bioeconomy is an initiative of the Autonomous Community of Castilla y León and the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, to advance in the knowledge and management of forest resources, promoting the bioeconomy and improving the efficiency of the forest industry, in order to reduce the impacts derived from environmental disasters, especially those caused by forest fires that are increasingly frequent in number and intensity, by promoting the digital and ecological transition of the forestry sector and the use of new aeronautical, aerospace and data intelligence technologies.

In this sense, the RetechFOR proposal aims to minimize the carbon footprint generated, promote and transform the local economy to achieve a more robust and resilient model to face climate change, and as a last priority, generate sustainable and lasting local socioeconomic impacts. In this way, RetechFor aims to investigate and demonstrate how to generate added value to the forestry sector based on Data Analytics2 of data collected with sensors on board aeronautical and/or satellite and pseudo-satellite platforms, which allow the creation, development and validation of innovative services and solutions, among others, to:

The Retech4Can project brings together several actors in the sector, with complementary expertise and capabilities, which will allow the implementation of a series of solutions using aeronautical and/or aerospace technologies, Data Analytics, transmission and communication systems and others that lead to providing an adequate solution to the challenges posed. All of this is led and coordinated by Parque Tecnológico de Fuerteventura SA, MP, the coordinating entity of the Canarias Geo Innovation Program 2030 and which has the facilities, capabilities and appropriate experience in the aeronautical and aerospace sector. One of the key facilities for the execution of the project, which PTFSA will make available to it, is the Canarias Stratoport for HAPS and UAS, which has the support and promotion of the European Space Agency (ESA) through a letter of agreement formalized in March 2019 and renewed in 2024 for an additional five years. The air operations of the Retech4Can project will preferably be carried out from this infrastructure, although they may operate, when necessary depending on their size, typology and/or convenience for the missions to be carried out, from other areas of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands or the Autonomous Community of Castilla y León.
